Turn on the light

I wrote this story arc over three years ago when I began the sprinkles gags.
It's based on a true story. My dad went to the store to buy some groceries for the family when he was a kid. His parents were in financial strain, but despite that he snuck in the purchase of a sprinkle-covered donut for himself. Then on his way home, while already feeling guilty about the donut purchase, he witnessed a woman die when she was struck by a bus and dragged down the street, leaving a bloody smear on the road in front of him. Kid-logic dictates that it was his fault for being selfish and treating himself to some sprinkles, and to this day he avoids eating sprinkles.
Fast-forward to now. I have a character who believes that when he eats sprinkles, people will die. When he finally eats some, a cat explodes. Pure Craziness.
Except a few days before I published the comic where Jacob eats the sprinkles, my parents’ cat essentially exploded in their bathtub. It was already sick from a tumor or something, but when it finally happened? It exploded. Blood everywhere.
I'm relatively sure that that cat technically died BEFORE I actually drew the comic (I do not work ahead), but still... maybe there's something to this whole 'sprinkles are bad luck' thing after all.
(I'm never going to stop eating sprinkles)
